Giving Children Hope (GCH) in collaboration with Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) from La Sierra University, Riverside California is involved in increasing computer literacy in children and providing opportunities for adults to develop marketable skills.
Valley View University, serving students from 15 African countries, is piloting a program to distribute computers to local grade schools. The Valley View students will help maintain the computer facilities in the grade schools to ensure that the children get a meaningful experience. Internet facilities have been established on the Valley View campus for students and the community. Adult training programs are also planned to assist individuals developing their skills and formulating micro business plans. We are excited to be part of this network of institutions and students that not only wish to achieve academically but wish to serve in a thoughtful way to help all people’s lives.
Valley View University, established by the Seventh-day Adventist Church, provides students, faculty, and staff with an environment conducive to balanced development of intellectual, spiritual and psycho-social dimensions of life in harmony with our Christian heritage and African culture.
In a context of liberal arts and professional curricula, the University emphasizes academic scholarship, vocational preparation, and cultural understanding leading to a life of service to God and humanity.

Here is a thank you from Dr. Wale Adekule who is part of the foundation:
Please accept our appreciation for the efforts on this consignment of medicines. Mouth cannot describe our happiness as we know these medicines will be used to touch the lives of several thousands who are not reached by the Government of Ghana. We live in the other side of civilization, the other side of history and development. And the reality here is that people die in the thousands often due to preventable diseases. More of these deaths occur in rural areas, affecting children who are most vulnerable, These are the areas where the government is not able to reach at the moment. Here lies the importance of these medicines and we are very appreciate that you have indeed risen up to provided hope for these hopeless. God bless you.
Sincerely,
Dr. Walke Adekunle

Container is scheduled to leave Wednesday, February 13.
Right now the second container from the partnership between La Sierra University and Giving Children Hope is in transit to Valley View University close to Accra, Ghana. The container has 275 computers, monitors, network switches and other equipment. The computers will be used for several pilot programs designed to empower the people of Ghana to benefit from the global opportunities that come with computer literacy and networking with the world. Among the programs are training in the basic computer skills for area residences and Valley View students. Part of the training will include helping persons learn how to market the skills they have learned to give them tangible benefits for their lives. Valley View University is also piloting programs where computers will be donated to area primary and secondary schools. The computers will be periodically maintained by Valley View students to assure effective use of the computers by the schools. Many of the primary students had never even seen a computer. Now they will be able to gain valuable life skills early. SIFE is planning to start a presence at Valley View this year to assist with these programs and other training in micro business.
The partnership with Valley View University provides many exciting opportunities to serve effectively in Ghana. Our vision is that all peoples should be able to share in the blessings that we often take for granted. If you would like to be part of it or contribute to specific projects, please contact Marvin Payne, La Sierra University. Marvin is on the Board of Directors for GCH. (mpayne@lasierra.edu).
