Beginning October 28, 2007 heavy rainfall from Storm Noel caused severe flooding in the southern, central and western regions of the Dominican Republic, killing 73 people with 43 others reported missing and more than 60,000 displaced according to the latest Dominican Republic government reports. The storm and flooding also destroyed at least 600 houses and damaged more than 24,500 others, many children, according to the U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

Giving Children Hope is working to bring relief.

IYI Director Takes Supplies

Associate Director of International Youth Initiative (IYI), Betsy Osterink, gathered medical supplies from Giving Children Hope’s Distribution Center in Buena Park that will be flown down to the country this evening.

Shipment Leaves

Giving Children Hope has sent a 40 foot container of humanitarian aid including a generator to power lights in the evening hours.
