Donation Helps Clinics from Closing
Giving Children Hope provided Transitions, a nonprofit that provides free services to adults with disabilities in Blanding, Utah, with a truckload of medical supplies last week. The founder of the agency, Sandy Asbury called to share that the supplies that were donated to their local clinics was enough to cover them for two years and helped save several small clinics in the area from shutting their doors.
“On of the directors of one of the programs was reduced to tears. He is so grateful,” Sandy said. “He said there is enough product to last [the clinics] for two years. It’s stuff we don’t have and can’t afford to buy… I wanted you to know that it was so greatly appreciated.”
The nonprofit serves clients in a Navajo reservation in San Juan County, one of the poorest in the nation, where the median income is $13,000 a year. They have 30 years experience working with agencies in that area such as the Navajo and Ute Tribes, Vocational Rehab, the San Juan School District.
Giving Children Hope works to bring other nonprofits the supplies they need to reduce their costs and funnel monies into other program areas so that they may better serve their clients.
Sandy said that the supplies were enough to triple their funds and spend money in areas they need to the most.
As she wrapped her thoughts she wanted to send GCHope’s donors a message: “We do want you to know that it does make a difference.”
Prescription Solutions Begins July Social Event With Day of Service
For many companies, helping out their local charities ends with a donation. However, some organizations strive for more, encouraging their employees to make a difference by donating their time and energy to a great cause.
This was the case Wednesday afternoon as 10 eager volunteers from Prescription Solutions, a United Health company, lent a hand in our Mission Store to kick off their July Social Responsibility event.
Group leader Richard Meza headed a team of volunteers who spent two solid hours completing various tasks such as restocking shelves and putting together stools and chairs.
This was the first of a myriad of events planned by Prescription Solutions for the month. In addition to service days planned for every Wednesday, they are also running a two week food and hygiene drive at their warehouse to accumulate supplies for Giving Children Hope’s Mission Store.
GCHope would like to thank Prescription Solutions and its volunteers for their hard work and efforts.
Giving for Living Extends Help to Local Community
When Rose Perez, the Practical Care Ministry Leader at the Cornerstone Church, learned about Giving Children Hope’s Giving for Living program, she knew that there were families in the local community that could use assistance.
She explained that right now there are not any diaper assistance programs in place for families with small children who find buying necessary items difficult. Some families are larger and do not qualify for government assistance which is why Perez came to Giving Children Hope in an effort to meet these families’ need.
“I had a 19-year-old girl with two small children, [with a] husband that was unemployed and she could not work due to her pregnancy. We assisted her with food, clothing [for the baby] and diapers. She was so grateful that we were able to help her because there were times she had one diaper left and did not know what to buy: either food or diapers for both her small children,” recalled Perez.
In another case, a desperate mother wanted to take her one-year-old child out of diapers because it was an expense she couldn’t afford. “She was glad we could help her and her daughter could be potty trained like any other child in the U.S.” said Perez.
Giving for Living provides clothes and items such as diapers for those in need in the local community.
