Giving Children Hope debuted its mobile medical clinic at the Remote Area Medical event in Los Angeles earlier this year. This mobile clinic will treat the under-served populations in Orange County and Los Angeles. Giving Children Hope will keep it stocked with necessary supplies and medicines. This is a unique partnership allows each of us to leverage our strengths and have the greatest impact in the community. The mobile clinic will have a large dental component and will also provide basic medical treatment.

Giving Children Hope is responsible for maintaining the clinic with needed supplies and medicines. Partnering organizations are responsible for community outreach and medical personnel. Our current list of include: Downey Regional Medical Center, Western University, Amrit Davaa World Health, Family Health Centers of Greater LA, Kaiser Permanente, Illumination Foundation, and Women for World Health.

To help get this mobile clinic on the road and into Orange and Los Angeles counties’ under-served communities, we need funding for refurbishment costs and one years’ operating expenses.

We are asking for $250,000 today to put the mobile clinic on the road in 2010. This investment will treat over 12,000 individuals, 10,000 in LA alone. This is under $18 per patient.

May 8 Health Expo update!

On May 8, Giving Children Hope’s Mobile Medical Clinic supplied a pediatric medical station at the first Central County Health Expo. At the event, 301 individuals received vision services, including 190 receiving prescription glasses; 97 people received free medical care. See pictures of the event below.

Thank you to all of the organizations and service groups who made this possible. Giving Children Hope looks forward to being a part of the even bigger Health Expo next year!

Mobile Medical Clinic Update

Giving Children Hope, along with the Illumination Foundation, has served 85 patients in the last month through the mobile medical clinic and volunteer doctors and nurses from Kaiser Permanente.

These patients were treated with medical, mental health and wrap-around services. They also were given referrals to receive additional care.

Bringing free healthcare to underserved populations in Orange County is only made possible through partnerships. We thank the following partners:

HCA Behavioral Health, Social Services Agency, HCA Public Health Nursing, MIAH, UCI School of Medicine, Concordia University, iHOPE, Los Alisos Intermediate School, Arlene Bates, Saddleback Memorial Medical Center – San Clemente, Casa de Familia, Carolyn McInerney of the County of Orange, City of Santa Ana, Catholic Worker Movement and all the organizations which serve the civic center homeless for helping to promote the clinic services.

Mobile Clinic April 7 Report

GCHope’s mobile medical clinic continues to serve the local community with the help of our partners, the Illuminate Foundation. Here is a report of the the services provided on April 7:

On behalf of the Illumination Foundation, thank you to everyone who served at the April 7 clinic at Denny’s last week. The event was extra special because of the barbecue and bounce house, courtesy of Family is Home Partnership (FHP), our site hosts. I know the families and their children really appreciated this, and it certainly helped with attendance. A big thank you to Denny’s Restaurant for graciously allowing us to conduct our clinic on their property and supporting our efforts!

FHP publicized the event extensively, and the clients who came out were exactly the families and individuals who needed MMSC, the reason we run these clinics. A high percentage lived in the motels and some were homeless “on the street”. Caroline saw a record 14 for MSI information/applications and our CHAT-H PHN Ivy Yen is following up on 13 individuals to ensure they really get connected to stable medical care. This is truly public-private partnership for bettering the health of the community!

Here are the numbers:

Clients who came through intake: 36
Clients who received H1N1 flu vaccine*: 28
Clients who received MD care: 26
Clients who received RN care only: 1
Clients who received mental health services: 3

Wrap-around services provided:

Social Services: 5 Housing: 16 Employment: 9 MSI: 14 Medi-Cal: 4

Clients referred for PHN Case Management: 13

*For those of you who crunch numbers, please note that H1N1 recipients do not go through intake, and thus there is an unknown overlap between those 2 numbers.

Thanks to all our participants this clinic: Family is Home Partnership coordinator Linda Livesey and staff, HCA CHAT-H, Giving Children Hope, Kaiser Permanente physicians and nurses, UCI nursing students, CSULB nursing student, Illumination Foundation staff and volunteers, HCA Behavioral Health staff, Casa de la Familia, Starbright Medical Clinic (Medi-Cal), Social Services Agency, MIAH volunteers, UCI medical students, and IF volunteer RNs.

On behalf of the Illumination Foundation,

Becky
