The Lugazi Mission Health Centre serves 580 patients a month, most of which are women and children. The Health Centre provides pediatric treatment, maternity treatment, dental treatment, lab tests, and immunizations. Most patients are seeking treatment for ailments such as measles, malaria, HIV/AIDS, and syphilis.
Of all the Lugazi residents, 65 percent are sugar cane and tea plantation workers earning wages comparable to 30 U.S. dollars a month; a wage much too low to afford necessary medical treatment. There are 4,450 orphans in Lugazi Town, most of whose parents have died of HIV/AIDS.
