“Hands of Hopeâ€: OC Charity Kicks Off New Season of Workforce Development
Buena Park, Calif. (November 27, 2007) – Giving Children Hope kicked off a new season of workforce development with the launch of a new “Hands of Hope†computer class.
The “Hands of Hope†program, funded by the United Way, is a workforce development program dedicated to equipping adults and young adults in transition with marketable skills and helping to place them in secure employment positions.
In previous years, students of the program have worked in areas of warehousing, bio-technology, truck-driving, and office administration. Recently, Giving Children Hope has made plans to enhance the program with IT and graphic arts classes.
This morning, November 27th, 2007, Program Coordinator, Harmony Trevino, welcomed 6 new “Hands of Hope†students into Giving Children Hope’s computer training lab and launched a six week course which will teach basic computer skills such as: how to navigate and work with Windows XP and how to create a Word and Excel document. The class will also focus on beginning typing, introduction to exploring the Internet and intro to basic administrative work.
The 6-week course will conclude with a career counseling workshop conducted by a career coach, and a visit from a staffing manager from Giving Children Hope partner, OfficeTeam, a specialized administrative staffing agency based in Cerritos.
Professional members of the community can contribute their time as volunteer teachers of the “Hands of Hope†program. Current needs include a graphics art instructor and an IT instructor. For more information on “Hands of Hope,†please contact Harmony Trevino at 714-523-4454.
