Many of you have been wonderful partners in the rebuilding efforts for those affected by Hurricane Katrina. This is an on-going project with so much work still to take place. We wanted to let you know what Giving Children Hope (GCH) is doing in terms of development in Louisiana.
On Monday, June 11, 2007 GCH sent out a truckload destined for four different projects. Here’s a little bit about each of them.
In January of this year, Orange Lutheran High sent a team of high schools students to assist in rebuilding some homes. These students were so impacted by the needs, they wanted to do more. These students and their families purchased items they determined were needed for the families with which they worked. They filled a tri-wall full of food packs and presents for families. They have also included a number of items for the Pastor of the Lutheran church they partnered with for the churches general distribution to those most in need. We applaud Lutheran High students for making a difference in these families’ lives and are thrilled to partner with them on this project!
In conjunction with La Habra Vineyard Church, we are partnering with the Vineyard Mercy Response to get needed aid to the Kenner Vineyard, which is located in a suburb of New Orleans. La Habra Vineyard is sponsoring 12 pallets of food, new shoes and clothing items to be disbursed to individuals in need. We are privileged to be able to partner on this project!
GCH has also partnered with the Church of the King in Mandeville, LA on the New Orleans Dream Center. This is the second shipment we are making to this full-scale project to impact and transform a community through the provision of much needed services. This includes CityReach Rebuild Teams, Adopt-A-Block, Adult Learning Center, Employment Center, After School Programs and Medical and Dental Clinics. GCH is outfitting a commercial kitchen to assist the Dream Center in its mission to serve those in need.
GCH has also partnered with a mentoring program in the inner city of New Orleans called Awesome Girls. You know what, we think the Executive Director James Rogers and his program are AWESOME! They are conducting health, nutrition and a variety of enrichment activities to fill in the gap and give guidance to young women in need. GCH has sent backpacks and food to launch the “We’ve Got Your Back†program in this part of the country. We’re excited to play our part in meeting the needs of hunger.

Giving Children Hope’s second shipment of aid arrived Monday, June 30th, to the Church on Fire Christian Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
See what Pastor Brenton Hall of the Church on Fire Christian Center in Iowa had to say about the aid sent to Iowa.
Giving Children Hope has sent out their own medical team to Myanmar where they have been assessing what the greatest needs are in the area, bringing medicine and working with doctors, and working to open up distribution channels for the last two weeks.
