In a season of insecure times, something as essential as buying food can become a dilemma for families who have found themselves in tough economic uncertainty, let alone families who have faced the problem of food insecurity for years.
Giving Children Hope helps ease those needs by feeding the local and national community.
Giving Children Hope is known largely for its international work, but has also always worked to feed and care for the surrounding community. We receive food in our warehouse on a regular basis; from individuals who host food drives to organizations, like Canning Hunger, that donate pallets of food for our efforts.
Food is distributed to local churches or to local organizations that help feed the population that needs it the most. The organizations that receive our food are organizations that help people become self-sufficient, promoting a hand up instead of a handout. Almost 30% of our agencies enrolled in our Giving for Living program, have local outreaches that help serve the community with food and materials to help individuals become self-sufficient.
Recently, food was sent to a church in Oxnard to help with their Thanksgiving outreach. Soon, Giving Children Hope will be providing 1,0000 boxes of food that will be distributed in Placentia, CA through the Purple Ark ministry, where hundreds will be fed for the holiday season. Other local agencies are provided with our donated food throughout the year.
Food is also sent out locally to homeless children and their families in Orange County through our We’ve Got Your Back program.
Giving Children Hope also helps feed the rest of the United States. Boxes of food were recently delivered to Texas, Galveston and New Orleans, to help with our partners’ ongoing community outreaches to those affected by Hurricanes Katrina, Rita, Gustav and most recently, Ike.
Giving Children Hope helps feed communities all year round, and is continuing to meet the demand of food in an uncertain time.
Our partners at Church of the King had a successful Thanksgiving Outreach with the help of Giving Children Hope!
Giving Children Hope helped provide Open Church in Oxnard with 100 boxes of food to help feed families in the area for Thanksgiving.
They have sent us a ‘Thank You’ video to Giving Children Hope and all the donors who have made this possible!
Today, Giving Children Hope sent 500 boxes of food to New Orleans to help with Church of the King’s Thanksgiving outreach event. They will be serving seniors on fixed incomes and low income families.
The church will be doing a program with music and entertainment for the children as well as having their Mobile Medical Unit available to do health screenings: blood sugar, blood pressure and BMI. There are almost 400 seniors that live in the high-rise complex and a little over 300-families that live in the apartments.
The church will also include Giving Children Hope’s donated chicken instead of turkeys in their meal boxes.
