On Wednesday evening, August 15, 2007, an 8.0 magnitude earthquake shocked Peru. Giving Children Hope is responding quickly to the 8.0 magnitude that struck Peru by sending containers of valuable medical supplies, food, blankets, and other humanitarian aid. Tens of thousands have been left either homeless or wounded with many cities south of Lima left in ruins. Churches and hospitals were left without water and electricity and aftershocks continue to shake the region.
Former GCH Board Member, Marius Peyre, a native from Peru, contacted GCH to begin relief efforts. GCH is working to ship a minimum of two containers to assist in disaster relief efforts and serve the community.
A 40-foot container of relief supplies left for Peru yesterday, in efforts to help those continuing to struggle after the August 2007 earthquake that shook the country.
The container, which shipped from Giving Children Hope’s distribution center in Buena Park, included food, cooking equipment and wheelchairs to Vineyard Church, Giving Children Hope’s partner in Peru. The Vineyard Church staff will use the equipment and goods to open a kitchen to feed families and children from the community, many of which are still struggling to rebuild their lives following the earthquake in August 2007.
This is Giving Children Hope’s third container of relief to Peru since the August 2007 earthquake. This is the fourth overall in that region.
Giving Children Hope is committed to bringing hope and relief to the people of Peru, and is able to do so through YOUR help and support.

Giving Children Hope received such an amazing amount of community support when we kicked off our Peru Quake Relief Effort in August. We have great partners on the ground in Peru, which enables us to send more and more shipments to support children and families in the region. This shipment is very special, as it is helping to equip an orphanage in Cusco.
On Tuesday, August 21st, volunteers and local businesses alike turned out to do their part in Giving Children Hope’s Peru Earthquake Relief Effort.
Volunteers arrived early in the morning and stayed late into the afternoon working diligently to sort hygiene items, pack them into kits, and get them ready for transport. King Taco Restaurant in Los Angeles donated a pallet of rice and beans that will serve to feed many who have little to eat in the midst of devastation. Medasend in Long Beach donated eleven pallets of medical supplies to be included in Tuesday’s shipment and notified us this afternoon that more pallets of supplies are on their way to Giving Children Hope’s distribution center.
Leah Phan, owner of Chibi Children’s Wear
Leah Phan, owner of Chibi Children’s Wear, arrived on Tuesday with her two children, touched by the Eyewitness News Report she read on Channel 7’s website and compelled to give. Leah donated a box of new children’s clothing, including a pair of socks that her two-year-old daughter specifically wanted to give to children in Peru. When asked why she wanted to give the socks, she replied, “Because children in Peru need clothes.”
Channel 4 News, Channel 7 Eyewitness News, and Channel 3 This Week In Garden Grove were all on hand to document the community support.
The day was full of energy, excitement, and a sincere desire to work hard for the chance to instill hope in the many that may have little in the wake of this disaster.
