Disaster Relief for Storm Noel

GCH partners with International Youth Initiative to bring aid to the Dominican Republic

Beginning October 28, 2007 heavy rainfall from Tropical Storm Noel caused severe flooding in the southern, central and western regions of the Dominican Republic, killing 73 people with 43 others reported missing and more than 60,000 displaced according to the latest Dominican Republic government reports. The storm and flooding also destroyed at least 600 houses and damaged more than 24,500 others, many children, according to the U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs.

Giving Children Hope has partnered with International Youth Initiative to bring emergency relief aid to the affected region. Currently IYI staff are in the region distributing food to communities in Palmarejo. On November 7th, 2007 Associate Director of IYI, Betsy Osterink, gathered medical supplies from Giving Children Hope’s Distribution Center in Buena Park that will be flown down to the country this evening.

Currently, GCH and IYI are working towards shipping a 40 foot container of humanitarian aid including a generator to power lights in the evening hours. YOUR help is needed to assist in this disaster serving the many children and families displaced. Giving Children Hope is in need of monetary contributions and donated supplies. The container is due to ship from Buena Park next week. Your generosity allows for the basics of hygiene kits, food, medical supplies, and other life-saving items to be supplied to those devastated in Dominican Republic.

Thank you and blessings for your faithful support and generosity in these times of tragedy!
