Devastation Hits Home

On May 22, a violent tornado struck Joplin, Missouri, claiming hundreds of lives and leaving thousands of homes in ruins. Just weeks prior, a string of tornadoes ravaged the South and Midwest regions of the United States.

Giving Children Hope is preparing to send a shipment to Joplin by Wednesday, May 25. This shipment will contain desperately needed food, water, emergency beds, nutrition shakes, blankets, linens, towels, diapers, medical supplies and hygiene products. This truckload of disaster relief supplies will be sent to Calvary Chapel and Destiny Church in Joplin.

These recent tornadoes have been reported as one of the worst tornado storms in recorded history, spurring more than 241 tornadoes that struck 13 states in three days and continuing destruction in the weeks to follow.

According to AccuWeather severe weather expert Henry Margusity, “There has not been a tornado outbreak in history over three days with this many tornadoes spawned by a single storm system.”

There have been nearly 850 confirmed tornadoes since May 23 and more than 400 confirmed fatalities. This tornado storm has been the deadliest since the 2008 Super Tuesday tornado outbreak.

Weeks after the April 14th disaster, another wave of tornadoes has continued hit to places like Alabama and Mississippi where more deaths were reported.

The tornados left behind a trail of destroyed homes, blocked roads, power outages, debris, floods and millions in damages.

To aid in this crisis, Giving Children Hope is responding by sending disaster relief items, medical supplies, hygiene products, and other needed items to the areas with the greatest needs.

If your organization or church is in need of aid from the disasters, please contact Sean Lawrence .

Update from Partners!

Sean Lawrence, Giving Children Hope’s Nonprofit Partner Manager, received an email from our partners in Joplin, MO to update us on their current needs and status:

Hey Sean,

Great to hear from you sorry it took me a couple of days to get back to you we have a lot going on here in KC all is well though. We moved the CR trailer back to LA recently. Wow what a blessing it was to use that, they served aprox. 18,000 meals during the month of June. CC Joplin has continued to distribute supplies such as GCH had sent out that also has proved to be a huge blessing both to the ministry there and more importantly to the devastated community of Joplin. So far all of this is still going on, but it is in constant flux as they work to adjust to the needs of the people impacted by the tornado. Teams are still coming through CC Joplin and staying on site again both working to distribute supplies and to go out and help people in the devastated areas. Sean we can’t thank you guy’s enough for your help and especially your teams prompt response GCH really showed up at just the right time. I know that the supplies arriving so quickly really sent the message of God’s love and His caring compassion for the people of Joplin.

God Bless you Sean and the whole team at GCH.

Agape, Jim

Thank you to everyone who played a part in the disaster relief efforts throughout the South and Midwest. We will continue communications with our partners to assess current needs.
