Cyclone Thane has spread throughout southern India, devastating communities, claiming homes, resources and lives.
Winds of up to 135 kph, and tidal surges of up to 1.5 m, destroyed huts and communities. Nearly 50,000 families are displaced by the destruction, forcing them to seek shelter in evacuation centers or makeshift homes. The majority of reported deaths have been linked to collapsing walls or electrocution.
Authorities say they are working to repair telephone and electric lines as quickly as possible in order to report needs from the communities affected the most.
Partners on the field are reporting that affected communities are “suffering without basic needs like food, shelter, water, milk and more.”
Giving Children Hope is preparing to send a container of disaster relief aid with food, medical supplies, water, water purification products, hygiene products, temporary shelters, and more.
Please consider playing a part in the sponsorship of this container. With your support, communities affected the most can receive the aid they desperately need.
