On February 27, 2010 an 8.8 earthquake occurred off the coast of the Maule Region of Chile. This is about 500 times stronger than the earthquake that struck Haiti just last month.
Giving Children Hope has been requested to send non-perishable foods and personal care items to assist those on the ground in Chile. Of particular need are blankets. Our partners write, “we are moving into the fall and winter and people are going to be desparate for blankets”.
More than a year after an 8.8-magnitude earthquake struck Chile, our partners are still administering relief to recovering communities. In the midst of their distribution, they sent us a note of thanks:
Dear Giving Children Hope and Union Rescue Mission:
Myself and the Pastors, churches, and people of southern Chile want to express our deepest appreciation for your generosity. Your generosity is already paying great dividends as the medical and clinic supplies are being distributed throughout the earthquake affected area near Concepcion and Talcahuano, Chile (about 7 hours south of Santiago). May God abundantly reward your labor of love and bless you work in His kingdom.
Thank you for the shipment of Medical Supplies/Equipment to the Fundacion Piedad Chile. My representative, Pedro Contreras, received the shipment on January 21, 2011. Due to major “red-tape” from the local customs officials, it has taken much longer than usual to be allowed to distribute the supplies. Pedro has been serving as our contact person for all earthquake relief work following the massive 8.9 quake that occurred in February of 2010.
Our prayer is that God will richly bless you!
Yours truly,
Michael H. Files, President
Fundación Piedad Chile
Thank you to all of the donors who helped the people of Chile in their time of need. Your contributions made this shipment, and Chile’s recovery, possible.
Recently we received an update from our partners in Chile, Latin America ChildCare, who began sorting and distributing medical supplies to local clinics:
Good afternoon!!Our representatives and pastors in the Concepción and Talcahuano area have begun to distribute all of the medical supplies. They are hoping to have everything distributed by the end of August. Here are just a few pictures of them beginning to work unloading the container and send the supplies out to different parts of the area. We are beginning to get some thank you letters from the different city/clinics.
Thank you again and may God richly bless you,
Michael & Dodey Files

These supplies are touching multiple lives and communities. Thank you to everyone who made this shipment possible!
The latest shipment of medical supplies left the Giving Children Hope facility last Friday for Chile. This shipment will benefit Latin America Child Care and Family Health Center to help continually treat patients affected by the earthquakes nearly 10 months ago.
Thank you to all of the supporters who continue to make these shipments of desperately needed medical supplies and products possible!
Family Health Center in Talcahuano, Chile received a shipment of medical supplies last month. These supplies were desperately needed in the months following the massive 8.8 earthquake.
Recipients at Family Health Center sent pictures of the supplies being received by Pastor Pedro as well as a note of thanks for Giving Children Hope, the partners which made this container possible, Toshiba and Apostolic Christian World Relief, as well as the many donors who contributed to Chile disaster relief:
“Pedro shared with me that when he arrived and began to give out the medical supplies that you had sent, the staff told him that everything that he had given them was a God-send. They were out of almost all of these supplies and were so thankful for the help. It is because of this type of clinic and their cry for more help that we have ask for a 2nd container. In every clinic where Pedro has been, there is a loud cry for more help. Each clinic explained that the government was out of supplies and would not be able to send more.
Thanks to everyone at GCHope/Godaid for all your help. And, we look forward to being able to give more help in the coming months. Let me know if you have any questions. God bless,
Mike”
Thank you for helping to bring health and medical supplies to the devastated communities of Chile!
Giving Children Hope’s disaster relief arrived in Chile several weeks ago and after clearing customs was delivered last week to the Talcahuano/Concepcion area. This region has the highest unemployment rate in Chile due to the damage to its ports and local factories.
A crew of 15 men unloaded the container that included a variety of much needed items including beans, portable mattresses, tarp material, a new oven and bakery items. On Monday, July 5th, distribution of these materials began in the Maule and Bio Bio regions, the areas most affected by the earthquake.
This relief was delivered with the help of our partners. Thanks to all of our supporters who enable GCHope to fulfill our mission of alleviating the suffering of thousands in Chile.
Giving Children Hope has shipped a container of disaster relief to Chile in response to the 8.8 earthquake that hit the country. Included in the relief were tarps, cooking equipment and WorldBed mattresses.
