On February 27, 2010 an 8.8 earthquake occurred off the coast of the Maule Region of Chile. This is about 500 times stronger than the earthquake that struck Haiti just last month.
Giving Children Hope has been requested to send non-perishable foods and personal care items to assist those on the ground in Chile. Of particular need are blankets. Our partners write, “we are moving into the fall and winter and people are going to be desparate for blankets”.
Giving Children Hope’s disaster relief arrived in Chile several weeks ago and after clearing customs was delivered last week to the Talcahuano/Concepcion area. This region has the highest unemployment rate in Chile due to the damage to its ports and local factories.
A crew of 15 men unloaded the container that included a variety of much needed items including beans, portable mattresses, tarp material, a new oven and bakery items. On Monday, July 5th, distribution of these materials began in the Maule and Bio Bio regions, the areas most affected by the earthquake.
This relief was delivered with the help of our partners. Thanks to all of our supporters who enable GCHope to fulfill our mission of alleviating the suffering of thousands in Chile.
Giving Children Hope has shipped a container of disaster relief to Chile in response to the 8.8 earthquake that hit the country. Included in the relief were tarps, cooking equipment and WorldBed mattresses.
